Guide
Find your ring size
Two ways to measure at home. Both give a number in millimetres, which is what the bench actually works from.
If you already own a ring that fits
- Pick a ring worn on the same finger of the same hand.
- Lay it flat and measure straight across the inside of the band, from edge to edge, with a ruler marked in millimetres.
- Measure twice. Half a millimetre is roughly half a size.
If you do not
- Cut a strip of paper about 5 mm wide and 100 mm long.
- Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger — snug enough that it will not fall off, loose enough to slide over the knuckle.
- Mark where the strip overlaps, unwrap it, and measure to the mark in millimetres.
When to measure
Fingers change size through the day and with the weather. Measure in the evening, at normal room temperature, when your hands are neither cold nor swollen — a measurement taken first thing on a cold morning can be most of a size out.
If your knuckle is much wider than the base of your finger, size to slide over the knuckle. A ring that will not go on is worse than one that turns a little.
Convert your measurement
Sending us the size
Give us the measurement in millimetres rather than a size number. Indian, US and UK charts published online disagree with each other, sometimes by half a size, and half a size is the difference between a ring you wear and a ring in a drawer. We match your millimetres against the gauge in our own workshop.
If you are buying a surprise, tell us and we will talk you through borrowing a ring or measuring discreetly. It is a conversation we have often.
